2. Demonstrator (1 MW)

As a next step and based on the current SkySails propulsion system for cargo ships and the experiences gained during testing the functional model, SkySails is planning to develop and implement a demonstrator of the SkySails Power system. The kite will have a sail area of approx. 400m² and the installed generator power of the demonstrator will amount to ca. 1 MW. This demonstrator will be installed, tested and developed further offshore.

The SkySails Power system is based on the SkySails technology that is being used in the shipping industry to provide added wind propulsion for cargo ships.

The latest SkySails product generation for the commercial shipping industry – the SKS C 320 towing kite system with a towing kite area of 320 m2 –  replaces up to 2 MW of the main engine's propulsion power.
